Destinations / Snowy mountains in winter
May 20, 2018, 10:49:26 AM
Hi
We are heading to the Snowy mountains in July to see the snow. I have never been to the snow and have a few questions.
What do you do about the water in the Tvan hoses, does it freeze and is there anything that i have to watch out for in regards to the van.
Also what is the easiest way to keep the Tvan warm when free camping.
Are the camping grounds busy that time of year around Tumut or outback NSW

Thanks

Hi DEF123

Do not waste your money on the switchboard units. They will not work in the tropics for the tvan size.
I have the Saphir and it is only just capable of keeping up. I went down to Kununurra this wet and during the day it managed to keep the humidity down but the temp was around 26. Night time it had no problem keeping the temp and humidity down with it cycling off every 30 mins. The 2 kw Honda will start and run it no problem but you will not start it with a 1 Kw generator. We normally size an air conditioner in a residential house for about 180 watts a square metre but when you have a tent and nothing insulated i would size a around 300 to 400 kw a square metre. The humidity is by far the largest load on the unit. I hope that helps but drop me a message if you want to know more.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Best way to protect plywood under Tvan?

I second Ominiod.
I have used it where i have cut the floor for my air conditioning in the Tvan.
We use it in Darwin on roofs out in the full sun to stop leaks we cant find during the wet season.
It is like bitumen paint.
Flexible but seals well.

I just use the fold down at night to hold drinks and gadgets after the kitchen is stowed. When the table is down and the kitchen open you can still cook but it feels like it is in your way.

Yes i removed it , turned it around and resealed it.

I couldn't have it swing up with the fold down table above.

Tvan Tvan / Kitchen changes on old style kitchen
February 18, 2017, 01:38:04 PM
Hi

Thought i would show you the changes i have made to suit my camping trips better. First i got rid of the Swift stove. The tap has moved and the outside door swings down now. An extra table on the side of the van and a storage area instead of the sink. These changes wont appeal to all but you might get some ideas.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Installing air con in mark 2
January 14, 2017, 08:04:17 PM
Hi

Just an update.
Went down to Kununurra last week and had the air con going in  the middle of the day. The van was cool enough to have and afternoon siesta. It was cycling the compressor at night with it set at 24 but we found this a bit too cold so put to 26. Came back through Katherine and stayed out bush. It was more humid than Kununurra and had no problems at night with it.

For Sale or Wanted / Re: Stove parts
January 14, 2017, 07:52:09 PM
Hi

The parts are sold.

Bobbo

I have made some mods to the kitchen . Removed the sink and turned into storage drawer and the stove was never friendly to me . Could never get the flame right. I will stay with the gas bottles on the front but use a 2 burner portable stove now. When completed i will post in the Tvan area for others inspiration.

Erik

Tvan Tvan / Re: Insurance advice wanted
November 07, 2016, 08:28:38 PM
I use a broker for all my business and private insurance, they have put the insurance for the tvan through CIL.

I have had no claims so far on the tvan.
