General Discussion / Re: Levelling a Tvan.
February 05, 2016, 12:10:04 AM
Hi

We are the same as Ross, after 13 years of tvan travel all set ups have been by the eye. Rarely in them years have we had issues, if we did it was Kathy's fault.

Hi Chris

Suggest having a look at Tamala Station. It is about 40km up Useless Loop Rd heading to Steep Point (South end of Shark Bay). Lots of campsites spread out across two points. Takes about 1.5 hours to drive up to steep point from Tamala, depending on road and sand conditions, it was all easy going 2 weeks ago and will be back there again over Australia Day.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Shock absorber questions.

Hi

Yep I agree with Nige, I changed out our flogged out rubber bushes with poly ones and have had no issues since. When we travel we drive to the conditions and adjust speed and tyre pressures to suit conditions.

Yes I have changed out a leaking shocker for a new one but considering that we had our tvan for over 12 years and have run on poly type bushes for the last 6 years I can't see the reason why we should run rubber bushes. Saying that I do carry a spare shocker (purchased from track) but with a spare set of poly bushes.

Towing / Re: Towing Tvan with small turbo diesel
November 18, 2014, 07:10:18 PM
Hi Boyce

Having owned our tvan since we bought new in 2003 (after twice hiring from Guest 4x4) it was only last year that we changed our towing rig. For the first 11 or 12 years we towed with a 1999 Mazda Bravo turbo diesel. While you did have to pick your gears on hills and ensure tyre pressures in sand it got us through to where we have wanted to go, yes extra power would have been good but it was ok and I still would connect them up for a trip today.

Introduction / Re: Roof liner
July 05, 2014, 10:15:16 PM
We had our roof lined around 6 or 7 years ago. Track arranged a motor trimmer they used to do it for us, best thing we done no more wet roofs and ice on cold nights.

Destinations / Gunbarrel Hwy
May 12, 2014, 11:00:35 AM
Morning All

Have the opportunity to meet with some friends travelling over from Victoria at Giles in late July. The intention is to travel the Gunbarrel Hwy through to Carnegie and onwards including the "old section" from Giles through to Jackie Junction. Was wondering if anyone has travelled the Gunbarrel recently (including the old section) with or with out towing tvan, interested in conditions and thoughts.

As this is going to be a quick trip for us getting to Giles & home from Wiluna (we live in Carnarvon) we are trying to decide if we tow the Tvan (preferred option, cold at that time of year) or do we just swag it.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers

General Discussion / Re: Water tank plastic type
May 06, 2013, 02:32:55 PM
Hi John / Rob

I can't tell you the model number or the type of plastic it's made from but I know that our 2003 tvan has the blue 70 litre "fiamma" water tanks installed in both the front and back.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Water Tank

Hi
We replaced our split water tank about three years ago (split at tennis ball contact points) I replaced the tennis balls with high density foam which we purchased from "Clarke Rubber". If you are lucky they have small off cuts that do the job just fine. Our first tank lasted nearly 40k km before it split and most of that was on dirt roads.

Tvan Tvan / Re: What is your opinion drawers or tubs?
January 18, 2013, 12:00:48 AM
Hi all

We have owned our tvan since 2003,we bought it new and have always used tubs. This has enabled us to adapt our storage as needed during our trips. While we once considered draws we feel that by having draws it would reduce the flexability of the storage that is a unique feature of the tvan.

Tvan Tvan / Re: 4X4 ute tow vehicle
April 22, 2012, 05:24:56 PM
Hi

We have towed our tvan with a Mazda Bravo 4x4 ute for nearly 9 years and have had no issues with the access to the back of it. I think from memory the drop down tailgate misses the trailer by about 200mm. If I park the tvan in a straight line I can even pull the black widow drawes out fully.
