Topaz Topaz / Topaz TV Aerial Satellite setup
June 30, 2017, 09:12:15 AM
I an looking to add a TV mount and satellite and aerial to Tiny House

Has any one had the Track Topaz TV package installed that can post pictures
Comment on how they have found using the supplied equipment
I have the price list from Track but no Pictures or explanation of the equipment
Not much info on the Track website

Satellite Dish setup and operation
Picture of your setup
Comments on how you have found using the equipment

Thoughts are
Note (Long Term Touring Setup)
Track TV bracket mounted near the door so the TV can be used both in and out of the van with the door open (Bed North South)
Satellite/Foxtel box mounted on the shelf near the bed
HDMI cable from boxes with a HDMI switch to TV
Dual Satellite receiver for both free to air and foxtel programs
TV Aerial at the back of the van for local TV channels

Cheers Ausc

Topaz Topaz / Topaz and Breakaway Brakes
May 31, 2017, 08:33:08 PM
I was doing some research for the towing weights for the ATM thread and found this site
CaravansPlus.com.au
The Caravaners Guide to Braking Laws...

Breakaway system laws
All States require that caravans / trailers over 2,000kg GTM also have a breakaway system

This means that any Topaz has to be derated to 2000kg or have a breakaway system fitted to allow the full 2200kg capacity
You need to check your registration and ensure that the GVM is listed at 2200kg

If your purchasing a new van then the Breakaway System needs to be added
You will need to negotiate with Track Trailer about having a unit added to your purchase

Topaz Topaz / Topaz Fridge Box Door
May 10, 2017, 06:19:14 AM
I was sorting out a leak in the front storage box and had to remove the door stay

Has the door been upgraded to a gas strut on the newer series 2 Topaz?

I took a photo of the door partially closed and if the current mechanism clear then a gas strut should work as well
I fitted a gas strut kit to my Kaymar bar on the 4wd which had a similar issue with tyre carrier lock
You had to lock open and if you pushed with the lock on you damaged the lock
The Topaz fridge box door has the same issue which can be seen by the damage to the mechanism

Topaz Topaz / Ants Like Glamping
May 09, 2017, 12:55:32 PM
I went camping for the Anzac weekend and had to take some gear from the van
Noted that the Ants had taken a liking to Tiny House and found their way in through the floor
They had track around the seats, mattress and into the mesh under the mattress
The mattress had a cover on so no damage
The cover has a few minor holes but washed up fine

The van is parked out the front on gravel so easy for the ants to access the van and go camping
I have some pics if the ant mess under the seat and the floor where they accessed the van

Need to spend some quality time sealing the floor and dust leaks
Tiny House is a 2013 van so most of the quality issues have been resolved but keep an eye on your van when parked on a dirt surface

Trip Reports / Tvan/Topaz gathering WA Kwolyin
April 25, 2016, 10:52:02 PM
We had all arrived by Friday evening and setup for the weekend
Dicko and Stubbsy2 had the campfire burning by the time Beth and I arrived at 8.30pm
The campground was near capacity and sharing sites was essential
Beth and I shared a site with Maddo and they where great neighbours
There where 4 Tvans and 3 Topaz's for us to to view and discuss each of the setups in the morning
We had some help and friendly distractions during our setup and when finished where ready for bed

Saturday morning started of with a nice sleep in and slow start to the day
We meet all the group and had a chance to view and chat about our different setups
Discovered some great mods that we have been working on to customise our Track Trailer products to suit our travel styles
I did manage to fit breakfast in during the discussions
Lunch time rolled around and I started making lunch
Beth was having a chat and feeling guilty wandered in to help me finished the prep and enjoy a nice meal
Everyone had completed lunch and ready for the afternoon trip to Kokerbin Rock

Kokerbin Rock is a short distance from the Kwolyin campsite and travelled around the rock road to the well car park
The Historic well which is more than 20 metres deep and three metres in diameter was constructed by hand in the 1920s to 1930s
The well is impressive has a dry stone lining
Next was a wander to the summit to enjoy the 360 degree view over the surrounding farm land
We had an enjoyable afternoon in the sun and headed back to camp for the evenning meal and a campfire chat at Dicko and Stubbsy2 campsite

Sunday morning started with a chat with the neighbours and breakfast
Each of the campsite where visited for a chat
The Merredin trip was delayed for some goodbye as some had work and family commitments
The convoy head for Shakleton to view the sculptures and the smallest bank
Next was Bruce Rock for a wander down the main street and lunch in the park
The machinery museum is interesting and worth a look

The trip leader was not concentrating and had some navigating challenges so a gravel road detour was required to get back on track
The next stop was Totagin Rock reserve for a wander around the rock and historic well
This well is quite small and a huge contrast to the Kokerbin well
Next was the trip to Merredin and the Military Museum
The museum was not open so next was Merredin Peak to see the historic railway dam and army hospital site

The trip home was a series of gravel roads to make our way back to Kwolyin campsite
The planned trip had a missing road so a detour was required to add to the entertainment
The camp was reach just on dark and the evening meal was next
The campfire was at AKBone's campsite and bring a log for the fire and your chair
The evening was magic with some interesting conversation and campfire treats
Wine and Mint Chocolate Biscuits

We woke Monday morning to some light showers
Breakfast was in full swing and the neighbour wandered over with his portable diesel gas heater which we put through its paces
Seeing the unit and having a play confirmed my thoughts about fitting one to the Topaz
Chatting at the neighbours was next and goodbye's as we all started for home or the Anzac service in Bruce Rock
Beth and I completed the pack up with a great trip home

Thanks to AKBone, Stubbys2, Dicko, Big Jeff, Diane Johnson & Maddo for a great weekend
Trip planning for our next adventure is underway and will keep you posted

Trip Reports / Point Malcolm WA - Topaz 2
February 02, 2016, 09:54:13 PM
The trip from Perth to Point Malcolm in the Nuytsland Nature Reserve
This was the first offroad trip for Tiny House and a chance to test the rig in its natural environment

We left Perth on sunday and travelled to hyden and out the hyden norseman road to The Breakaways campsite
This is not the shortest route to Esperance but a favorite campsite which we have visited many time
Hyden Norseman road has been promoted as the Granite and Woodlands Discovery Trail and has plenty of sites to make the trip worthwhile
The road was in good condition and was comfortable to travel with minimal corrugations
We let the tyres down 10 psi from road pressure on the gravel section

The Breakaways Campsite has some very colourful breakaway cliffs surrounding the camping area
The sites haves trees for shade and a drop toilet for added convenience
I have shown a picture of one of the sites from a previous trip with the camper

Topaz Topaz / Topaz 2 Water System
November 30, 2015, 08:59:14 PM
The Topaz 2 Water System

I would like to fit a tank drain in each tank the the hoses are completely hidden by the tank protection plate and are well about the tank base once visible
Has anyone fitted a tank drain to each tank?
Has anyone had to repair the tanks and have pictures or ideas on tanks drains?

Water Pumps
I have taken a picture of the Topaz 2 water pumps and would like to confirm what all the suction lines do

Left Pump is the rear tank pump feeding
Hot Water system
Kitchen Hot Water
Shower Hot Water
Tempering Valve
Shower Cold Water

Right Pump
Kitchen Cold Water

The 3rd line down the chassis with black filter whats the purpose of the line?
The Blue unit after the Left Tank is this a check valve? To stop back flow of hot water?
The pressure relief valve what pressure does this relief?

I would like to fit a Town Water system and a alternate tank feed system
Hence asking the questions to understand what the current system does

What problems will you see with the current system with town water pressure introduced after the pumps
Check valves will need to be installed and solenoid valves for alternate tank feeds
You can then select which tank to feed the water to either service
Town water will allow longer term water supply without having to play with the tanks

Electrical and Wiring / Topaz 2 Wiring Diagram
November 06, 2015, 12:40:27 PM
The wiring diagram for Topaz 2 is that available for the 12v and 240v systems
I would like a staring point for wiring mods
This may be a tall ask as its a current product

I would like to add some more power outlets in the Topaz
I am upgrading the 240 volt system to a Inverter Charge system

Topaz Topaz / Tiny House
July 05, 2015, 11:03:22 PM
Tiny House is a 2013 series 2 Topaz. We purchased Tiny House in April after the caravan and camping show.
We took delivery in June after having so extras supplied and fitted by the dealer.
Taking delivery was an exciting day as it is the start of planning and fit out stage for lap of Aus.
The lap of Aus is the reason for purchasing tiny house and end of the our investigating the diffrent option for the trip.
We had a 2010 adventure camper which is very comfy and very capable and where we started looking at doing the trip in the camper.
I have no doubt the trip could have been under taken in the camper but after some longer trip to the east coast the weather is a big factor with the canvas. We looked at many options from full size caravans, semi offroad caravans, truck type campers and any other serious option.

The criteria for the trip
The ability to go offroad and bush camp
Minimal weight and size for offroad abiliity
Maximum storage and able to take the bikes
Outdoor kitchen and living was key feature for us
Indoor bed setup for sleeping and seating for bad weather

I am sure the list is familiar with topaz owners and the reason we ended up with tiny house
We struggle with the size and weight of the topaz as we would of like to have been a meter shorter and at least 400kg lighter
Better rear ground clearance and the body height closer to the 4wd height
The deciding factor was the extra comfort and storage for long term living at the expense of some offroad ability

Introduction / New Topaz Owner
July 05, 2015, 08:38:12 PM
I have been involved with 4wds and camping for many year. Beth and I are in the process of setting up to do the lap around Aus. We have an Adventure offroad camper which has been a great camper but not so good for longer term trip around Australia. We have spent time looking at many option for the trip and managed to work through the options and become an owner of a 2013 Topaz. Look forward to being apart of the Track Community. Auscgu

Topaz Topaz / Topaz series 2 Tyre Winch
April 24, 2015, 08:25:42 PM
I am purchasing a 2013 series 2 Topaz and would like to install a rollout pantry.
The issue is the tyre winder is accessed through the left hand front storage area.
I have had a quick look at the dealers and can see 4 bolts which hold the tyre winch to the cover.
Can the tyre winch be rotated and a new hole drilled in the cover to allow the handle to access from the right hand storage area.

The other question is how dose the storage area seal if the tyre winch is supported from the cover?
Does this mean the storage area is able to be flooded in a water crossing?
I know the van could be flooded is you have gas as the door vent is not much higher.
Thought was to seal the cover with a socket and pipe cap.

Has anyone fitted a rollout pantry for the outdoor kitchen?

The Sovereign BBQ is the small model and I have a large model.
Has anyone fitted the larger BBQ to the Topaz?
I believe the prototype had the larger BBQ if you look in the 2013 awards photos.
What  is required to fit the larger BBQ?
The larger slides from Sovereign?

The reason for the larger BBQ is the oven is 55mm higher 30mm wider and 150mm longer.
This is plenty of room to roast and cook bread and cakes.
Not the BBQ can be used as a stove oven and BBQ with the wire rack.
You take the BBQ plate off and fit the rack for a stove.
We have found that if you turn the rack upside down you don't need a trivet for baking.
To keep the wire rack in place I would suggest making a flat bar aluminium guide with slots to suit the rack support.
This will keep the rack in place so it cannot slip off.
Hence wanting the bigger oven.
