T4 / Things you would change.
September 20, 2023, 02:22:25 PM
Hi everyone, long time since my last post when we owned a Tvan.
Interested in the T4, probably the Rhapsody.
Thought I'd ask on here if current or past owners would change any of the options or add options they didn't.
Also have there been any issues that appear to be common in the T4 rang?
My main concern is that the ensuite looks particularly cramped, what do users think?
Do any of you have the composting toilet and does that make the ensuite more cramped?

Cheers

Tvan Tvan / Tvan hatch struts
April 18, 2014, 10:00:55 PM
Found one of the struts leaking oil so emailed Track trailer re replacement, surprise surprise, no answer from TT.
Seems to be a continuing theme with them.
Anyways,, Aussie Struts supply the struts to TT but the struts do not have any part numbers on them, but do have info regarding the length, diameter and I think it is newton metres of pressure, I seem to recall this as being 500n on the strut.
Aussie Struts have a strut the right length and diameter but there N reading is 50-1200.
Does anybody know if this would be suitable as it obviously covers the force required by TT for the hatch to open and should I be replacing the struts as a pair, I am leaning towards replacing both at the same time.

Tvan Tvan / Shock absorber bushes
September 10, 2013, 07:49:26 PM
We had the shock absorber bushes replaced by Track Trailer in April this year as there was excessive movement in that area and now we find the bushes are stuffed again 5 months later. In that time we have travelled 18,000 klms with a 60/40 mix of bitumen and off road. The off road has been the Oodnattata, parts of the Binns track, Savannah Way from Cape Crawford to Roper Bar, up to the Coburg Peninsula, the Gibb River Rd and Cape Leveque.
Should the bushes have lasted longer than they have or is this something you need to replace every 4-6 months if you are offloading as we have been doing.
Would like to hear if any other Tvanners have had the same problem and if they have, did they try urethane bushes instead of rubber?

Tvan Tvan / Pole carrier.
November 15, 2012, 04:27:11 PM
Made this up when I had nothing to do. ;D

The ends have a piece of flat alumimium inside under the bolts to add extra strength.... will it hold up to rough travels, we'll have to wait and see.

Tvan Tvan / After trip mods
October 08, 2012, 07:22:05 PM
Having been to the Cape recently, we had a few things to adjust on the Tvan.

1/. Make/procure a cover to go over the kitchen sink to give additional bench space.
Done! We have a mate that does toilet partitions our of 15mm plastic sheet, quite dense stuff. Anyways, left the van with   him and he had his team cut and rebate a piece to cover the entire sink unit and drainer, work an absolute treat. One small problem, forgot that the side wind shield needs to go down onto the sink unit. Bugger!!! He is now cutting out a checkout to accomodate this.

2/. Having a Mark 2 Tvan we found the ply bed base sags, not a problem if you sleep head in to the van, we don't. So have installed a divider/stiffener to sort that problem out.

3/. Ordered a Caframo fan to create a breeze when there is none. Once it arrived( while we were away) it was time to install.
Pulled some wiring out that went to the down the light on the left hand side at the rear and linked into that, all good. tested it and works fine. I decide to use 3M external double sided tape to secure to the bulkhead in the Tvan as I didnt want to drill holes and couldn't wait for magnets from Ebay. Time will tell if this works.  :)

Thats it for now, but I'm sure I'll think of something else, just have to put it to the Minister for Finance in such a way that it appears we have to have it.  ;D

Tvan Tvan / Gas hose fitting
September 24, 2012, 05:39:31 PM
HELP,
on our recent trip away I some how managed to damage the female part of the Rectus type 21 fitting on the gas hose to the stove.
Does anyone know whereabouts in Brisbane I could source a replacement at a reasonable price, I've tried Enzed, but they only get them in packs of 5, Track Trailer want around $60.00 for the fitting, mailed to Brizzy. ( quote from Anne at Track)
I've been onto a mob in Glenelg SA that has the Legris version of the fitting but their figure including delivery is around the $44.00 mark.
I've yet to try Pirtek.
I did ring Gameco but they could only give me a series of connection to replace the whole fitting and it would end up sticking out of the stove too far to close it.

Tvan Tvan / Gas bottles
September 13, 2012, 07:37:07 PM
We have been to the Cape and back in the last 11 weeks and noticed that the straps holding the gas bottles tend to loosen up over corrugations and end up with the gas bottles moving and rattling quite a bit.
Has anybody found a solution to this with  a better tie down system or maybe using insertion rubber under the bottles to help with stopping the movement of the gas bottles?

Tvan Tvan / Bed base ply sagging
September 13, 2012, 06:28:20 PM
Hi All,
just wondering if anyone has had the following problem.
The ply base beneath out bed has sagged and this causes the feeling of rolling into the middle of the bed all the time.
We sleep with our heads towards the back of the van and do not like sleeping the other way round. We aren't large people so do not know if this is a common problem.
Have thought about installing a divider into the space under the bed to push the ply back up.
Any suggestions welcome.

Trip Reports / The long and winding road
July 18, 2012, 07:11:20 PM
We are currently at Mt Surprise QLD going on the Lava Tubes excursion tomorrow.

Been on the road since 25th June heading north out of Brizzy. So glad to see some sunny skies. On Saturday we intend heading up to Chillagoe, not sure on the spelling, then onto Ravenshoe. Eventually up to the Cape if all goes well.

Morning All,
sitting outsdide the Tvan at Bell Park Caravan Park in Emu Park QLd ans thought it would be a good time to start a topic that I think could be quite interesting.
We recently spent a week on Fraser Island camping just behind the fordunes on the Eastern side. Now we had purchased a new 120watt solar kit before leaving and on testing the output of the panels ( not regulated) we could get 27 volts on a sunny day at around 3.oopm in the afternoon in Brisbane. Same type of sunny day on Fraser at midday only 19volts. Checked reading on 3 consectutive days always around the same volts. Yes panels were directly aimed at the sun.
On visiting friends in Bundaberg, set up the panels to check voltage again and the reading had returned to 27 volts. Our assumption being that there must have been enough sea spray in the air on Fraser to lower the direct sunlight hitting the panels, even though to the naked eye it didn't look like it.
Could be food for thought for people with solar panels on their roof with respect to how much feed in they may get into the grid.

Any-one else done a similar trial?

Cheers Steve

Tvan Tvan / Which jerry cans??
May 09, 2012, 08:46:59 PM
Hi All,
looking at which diesel jerry cans will fit in the holders behind the wheels in a 2010 Murranji?
And some suggestions as to the most affordable place/s we could purchase them.

I thought I had seen a thread on this somewhere else but couldn't locate the thread.

Tvan Tvan / Stone Stomper stone guard
April 12, 2012, 10:43:35 AM
Have just bought our guard from Stone Stomper and have to say the help and quick answers to my questions were a breath of fresh air compared to some businesses efforts.
A big thank-you to Christian at Stone Stomper. On another note, Christian wrote in one of his emails that they had just about finalised a deal with Track Trailer to supply the stone guards to TT so they can be offered as an accessory for TT customers.
Just in case anybody is interested.

Tvan Tvan / Replacing the internal lights with LED's
March 15, 2012, 02:49:41 PM
We have a 2010 Murranji, (stillMk11), and was wondering if anyone has replaced the internal lights with LED's, and if so what did you end up using?

Cheers
