Tvan Tvan / Diesel heater now permanently installed
July 11, 2024, 04:13:22 PM
Just adding some traffic to the forum re changing our heater from a portable setup to a fixed installation.

It was previously built into a bunnings toolbox with a checkerplate cover and lawnmower muffler
with the incoming air drawn over the muffler to preheat before going thru the heater. Worked very well but took a few minutes to setup and pack up each time which, makes an extra job on a travelling trip.

Now it is always ready to switch on but may use a bit more fuel to get the same heat but the the fuel tank is now 4.5 litres instead of 3 litres.

If photos didn't stick I'll add another post.

General Discussion / portable composting toilet
January 27, 2023, 07:42:43 PM
We are considering a composting toilet for the Tvan for remote trips. If anyone has one we would like to hear how it is working for you. We think the Cuddy is the best option so far.

thanks,

3 Goodyear Wrangler AT/R 31x 10.5 x 15 on sunraysia 7" rims (6x 139.7 studs), rubber half tread depth and 12 years old but still been trundling happily around NSW. Probably best suited to good road use only or farm equipment.

Tvan Tvan / Fitting 17 x 8 rims to Mk11
February 02, 2022, 03:14:25 PM
This is far from a new topic so thanks to all who have discussed this over the last 10 years or so.

Time for new tyres on Pajero and Tvan so seems wise to try and make them the same. Pajero rims are 17 x 71/2 with +46 mm offset and Tvan has 15 x 7 with 0 mm offset.

I'm thinking 3 x Dynamic or ROH 17 x 8 with 0 mm offset for the Tvan with 6 new Bridgestone 697 265/65/17 LT tyres on the road and 2 best off the Pajero as spares, about $2000 all up.

I was thinking +15 offset on the Tvan may fit (and not stick out so far for emergency use on the Pajero) but the slightly wider 8 inch rim may make the slightly wider tyre too wide (I have 30 mm clear to the shocks now), current tyre is 260 mm wide and 697's are 265.

Am I on the right track (no pun intended)?

Ray  btw, does anyone have a spare 6 stud 40 mm spacer they no longer need? :)

This is nearly has complex as 12 volt stuff :)

Tvan Tvan / changing bushes at rear of tvan trailing arms
January 19, 2021, 06:59:45 PM
Hello brains trust,

Could someone who has done it advise the best (safest) method of lowering the trailing arm to replace the top hat style rubber bushes?

EG, should the wheel be on the ground or trailer jacked up and wheel off.

Should the shock stay on to stop the spring popping out or be removed, can the spring then be removed??

Is a spring compressor required or desirable?

thanks for any tips,

Tvan Tvan / Garmin RV 775 MT-S GPS and Hema GPS's
October 07, 2019, 08:28:53 PM
I am considering a GPS upgrade and also want to add a reverse camera without cluttering the dash too much.

Has anyone tried the Garmin 775 with the Hema map and reverse camera and compared it to the various Hema offerings?

Thanks for any relevant experience,

Just on the off chance, if anyone has a spare end wall (kitchen or tent end) we would be delighted to buy it.

Tvan Tvan / good flexible solar panel suppliers
June 19, 2018, 02:48:26 PM
Gday all,

Inspired by all the flexible panels appearing here I'm thinking of upgrading the 180 watts (3x 60) on the Pajero to 2 x 200 watt flexible panels to reduce weight and increase power collection, we seem to be using more power these days, esp when using the freezer.

Can someone recommend a reliable supplier of good value panels, I'm looking for 2, 1040 x approx 800mm.

I'm thinking of using sailtrack to attach them to the roof rails so the panels can be removed easily for cleaning etc, has anyone tried this, does it work, any advice welcome?

thanks,
Ray

Tvan Tvan / outer wheel bearings turning on hub
March 23, 2016, 09:48:01 PM
I'm checking the tvan bearings and find the outer bearing inner race appears to be turning on the stub axle and is quite loose. The large flat washer also has wear marks on both sides that match bearing and nut contact surfaces. The new bearing also appears a bit loose when pushed onto the stub.

Is it possible to use a Loctite or similar product to stop the inner race from turning?

any advice appreciated,

Ray

Tvan Tvan / Ray's Tvan Sport mod's
August 27, 2015, 02:36:21 PM
The Tvan is a great bit of kit but even it can be improved, here are some of our updates. First pic shows the 'new' annexe via Wally with helpful ideas from Craig and Mal.W. Pardon the messy camp, we are packing up after several days at Myall River camp.

thank you for putting your tips here for others to follow,
Ray

General Discussion / snorkel for cape york
July 20, 2014, 06:03:49 PM
Hello everyone,

I tried to submit this yesterday but it didn't seem to work, so will try one more time. We will shortly head for Cape York with our NT Pajero and Tvan in late August. Do those who have been there consider a snorkel essential at this time of year? We are considering the Bloomfield track, Lakefield NP, OTT south. The pajero has standard suspension, winch and bullbar.

thanks for any assistance,

Ray
