Tvan Tvan / Re: Spare parts and accessories
January 01, 2023, 04:35:44 PM
I have only had good dealings with them in the 12 years I have had my Tvan.  Perhaps the Christmas Creciendo got in the way of replies to your queries?  Hang in there.

On my MkII the heavier spring is on the bottom.

I carry a short length of garden hose that attaches to the outlet of our Mk2 Murranji front tank.  After a few pumps this acts as a syphon and fills a 20L bucket which is plenty of water for two showers.  You just have to remember that the water is syphoning and not wander off.  This 20L bucket is then cycled through the Aqua Cube until it is the correct temperature for showering.  Gas is turned off while showering and just the water pump utilised.

Tvan Tvan / How to mount a 22" TV in Mk2 Tvan
February 13, 2021, 03:50:03 PM
OK Brainstrust, a teaser for you to ponder...   ::)  Something for me to do as we head into another lockdown  :-\

I would like to mount a 12V 22" TV/DVD player in our Mk2 Tvan.  I am sure others have already done this.  I remember seeing a post of one setup that swiveled and rotated and stored against the roof.  Another that swiveled and stored against the window.  And another setup that looked like a removable split bracket with the TV able to be removed and stored separately.  I would love to see how others have installed TVs in their Tvans with details of the brackets used and any other helpful comments.  Also, any comments and recommendations for a removable antenna would help.

Cheers

Electrical and Wiring / Radio Upgrade
November 23, 2020, 09:26:48 AM
We are considering updating the AM/FM radio installed in our 2007 Mk2 Murranji to something that will support Bluetooth remote speaker etc.  Does anyone have a recommendation of make and model that will slot into the existing position?

Tvan Tvan / Re: Changing kitchen hotplate: Question

I have cleaned out / enlarged the jets on my Spinflo using tip files.  These are a set of various diameter files for cleaning welding/cutting torch tips, available from welding equipment suppliers.  Very inexpensive.

Hi
We used Selleys Kwik Grip Spray Contact Adhesive from Bunnings.  I have removed and installed the tent 3 times and had it removed and reinstalled several times before I decided to do it.  Not sure if the clips were ever replaced when done by TT.  There is still plenty of grip left in them.  There is about 100 around the Hatch edge.  They are made of spring steel so could be reset with pliers if you thought they were stretched.

For Sale or Wanted / WTB - Mk11 Annex Walls
July 25, 2020, 06:50:27 PM
Following some discussion on the FaceBook site...... We are Wanting To Buy the additional Annex walls for our Mk11 Tvan.  This is the long wall and the end wall at the tent end.  We already have the roof, kitchen end wall, draft skirt and all the poles and guy-ropes.  So if you have what we are looking for and don't use it and would like to convert it to cash, please give me a call.
Cheers

Ditto RACV  :D  They have been great with any claims we have made and helped us out on more than one occasion with the Total Care coverage for vehicles and Tvan.  Our current insurance premium for the Tvan, after multi policy discounts etc. was $486 pa.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Torn tent canvas
May 24, 2020, 12:16:38 PM
We had a bug stored with our canvas while in Kununurra that ate through the roof and a side of the tent.  We initially repaired it with stick on canvas repair kit which worked for several years.  The last time we had the tent out for other repairs we had the canvas maker sew a patch over these holes.   :)

Please confirm this includes ALL annex walls and not just the standard setup of roof and kitchen end wall.  I am looking for the complete annex.

Tvan Tvan / Re: Tvan head lining fabric

No, the installation wasn't too difficult.  Removal and re-installation of the tent was the most challenging part but not impossible.

I marked a centre-line and centre-point on the fibreglass and on the back of the hull liner.  Then spayed one half of fabric and matching half of the fibreglass with contact adhesive.  When spraying apply to surfaces left - right then up and down to ensure good coverage.  Allow to tack-off for a couple of minutes to almost touch dry.  Then, with sufficient hands, place the fabric up to the fibreglass at the marked locations along the centre-line and work across towards the outside edge.  I found that applying the fabric to the large flat areas first and ignoring the indents of the ribs to be the best method.  The fabric can then be stretched and worked into the ribs over that half of the pod.  Things get a bit fiddly into the corners and around the tent hoop brackets but some care and persistence will sort these out.  Cutting the waste off with plenty of sharp Stanley Knife blades makes it easier as you go.  Sharp shears were also helpful.  The most effective tool I found to dress the fabric into the ribs was the butt-end of the Stanley Knife.  You have enough time to pull out any wrinkles that appear and reapply.  It takes a while sorting out the corners etc. but after these are cut and likely to fit, it can be pulled back and more adhesive applied to each surface, tack-off then install.

Once you are happy with first side apply the contact adhesive to the second half of the fibreglass and the rest of the fabric as it hangs from the pod.  Repeat as before for the first half.  There are several YouTube videos on Hull Liner that show it being installed int boat cabins that show all of the techniques.

When reinstalling the tent and the 100 clips that hold it in place I suggest that you install it around the transom opening as normal and install the stay-puts in the eyelets to ensure it is all lined up with the first few clips before you get carried away installing clips.  Check the corners are correct etc.  All this is done with the pod held at about level by the strap.

Good Luck.  Cheers, Dave   :)
