Can someone post a photo of their Cgear mat 1.8mx2.4 in situ with their Tvan setup. I would like to buy one, and interested in the coverage/practicalities versus the larger one in the photo above by Cracka. Read the comments on this size, but I'm more of a visual person when sizing up options like this. Thanks

You do exactly what we do emcaminhols - works perfectly, same bin, same location, same shopping bags.

We went with APIA $44.84 pm - they classify it as a Caravan.
My husband is a senior insurance manager and checks out the off-road coverage for our tvan & Prado before making any decisions, plus coverage of items. At the time I became an APIA customer, I met their minimum age conditions and hours pw - circumstances changed and I now work full time: APIA acknowledge the change in circumstances and still cover us.

The Spirits of Tasmania are undergoing an internal refit this winter and better recliners are on the list.

I'm interested, for a time in the future that we may choose to use the Tvan bedrails to tie down stuff.... can someone/s articulate on the options they use to  tie down their stuff using the bedrails?

Just back from a 2 week trip with tvan/new Prado to Tassie. Hume Hwy from Syd- Melb, and touring in Tassie.

We went with the magnets, and have a merit plug wired into the cable - providing versatility with it's location. We pack it up into the Camframo box, which fits nicely into the ceiling netting closest to the Tvan door.

Another vote from the pop up netting tent - good to sleep in on hot nights, good to prepare/eat meals in, and good to read in - ours takes two camping chairs.

Joga -

We are back from our 2 week trip. Saw two other Tvans whilst we were down there. I can highly recommend bush camping at Granville Harbour (on west coast, north side of the township), and the Western Explorer Road north from there, via Corinna and Arthur River locality for camping.

Ben Lomond NP has six camping sites, most of which would fit a tvan/4wd. These spots are below the tree line & protected from the weather. Best surprise there was two flushing toilets, and tap water. The ski resort also now has a pub open during the summer  - best leave your tvan in the camping area to avoid the Jacobs Ladder climb & descent to the ski village with the van. It's a very nice day walk from Carr Villa (close to camping ground) up to the plateau and across to the ski village if you wish to avoid Jacob's Ladder in the car.

I would also recommend Mt William NP in the NE of the island. Most the crowds should be gone when you are there.

As a local living on the mainland (for way too many years now), I go back regularly.

We are taking our new Prado & Tvan on the day boat on Boxing Day for 2 weeks. If anyone is interested, 2 adults, Tvan & Prado is $1314.54 return. Keep in mind this is peak season, and the day boat requires no seat/bed booking so is very economical. We figure that accommodation in peak season is at least $150 pn in a cabin, but we would miss out on the bush camping experience which is important to most Tvanners; then that is a reasonable price to pay for the boat. This price is up to 10metres in combined length.

We will also be staying in Ben Lomond National Park (high country) with the Tvan.

Enjoy your trip  - there is so much to do and enjoy. It is deceptively easy to underallocate time for a trip to Tassie if you enjoy the wilderness.

PS- something else to keep in mind, the Spirit of Tasmania sent us an email yesterday with pre-check in information. Quarantine for Tasmania is now done in Melbourne before boarding ( new since our last boat trip) - Quarantine is very strict for Tassie - you don't want those fines.

Plus for those who have not gone by boat, all gas bottles are collected at vehicle check in (Melbourne) & collected from a collection area in Devonport. Please remember to collect them - it can be a long wait to get off the boat, and in your eagerness to finally get going it is easy to forget to collect your bottles (speaking from experience!)

We have taken a Tvan to Cape York and found that things were relatively stable without tie downs on the inside. I guess it depends on whether you are planning the Old Telegraph :-)

Thanks everyone.

We have it worked out. It needed quite a large number of "cranks" on & off to lubricate the lock.

Then with another large number of "cranks" on & off, we worked out it appears to be slightly spring loaded. You should not turn the key to the furthest of the lock position, hold the key there whilst attempting to remove it - doesn't work.  What is needed is turn to the lock position, let go of the  key  & it springs back a tiny bit, and then the key comes out easily. Works consistently in this manner.

Bit strange, (and hard to explain) and  different to opening a building door, where you turn the key to the furthest, then remove the key with the key held in that position.

We bought one of these d035 locks from Vehicle Components and have found it be a real pain to lock/unlock. It's quickly falling into the realm of the at 35 hitch!

Hubbie has called Qld and they have provided some tips but not looking promising.

We are leaning towards this is a faulty lock, but want to rule out user error first. We are very familiar with the key system as we have them on a number of community halls that we use on a weekly basis.

Would love to chat with a couple of folks from here on the phone to rule out user error. Even better is there is someone from Southern Sydney with one that we can visit to visually compare operation.

BTW we looooovvve the swap over to the d035 hitch itself.

We bought the D035 hitch  from Track Trailer  - easy swap over from the AT 35, which has gladly gone into the bin.
