Hi, is anyone able to recommend a travel guide for Cape York in terms of the tracks and camping options?

Does anyone use either of these and if so how do you find them?

fuel at Punmu was $3.20/litre but $2/litre for cash. We heard of other groups getting this discount as well, so not sure if it is ongoing. At Kunnawarritji it was $3.40/litre.

We took the following route in June this year: Alice Springs along the Gary Junction Rd , Telfer Rd into Rudall River NP, Talawana Track to Newman newman to Karajini and the Hammersleys, Munjina Rd to the Marble Bar Rd. From Marble Bar to Carowine Gorge and then Muccan Shay Gap Rd (very scenic) and Border,one track to the Northern Highway. We also consideredGoing via Windy Corner and glad we didn't as we met people who said it was bush bashing to get through. The Gary Junction Rd was In Great condition and very beautiful, with a few nights stay at Jupiter Well.
Basically we had no issues and is a great way to head west.

I should add that the northern access into Rudall River has about 4 sandy sections, we did get bogged, dug out easily, we just didn't have our tyre pressures low enough. But otherwise it is a reasonable but narrow in some places track.

Thanks everyone. From what I've read it seems that traversing the track (we plan north to south) shouldn't be a problem. Anticipating to be there about the middle of June. So Peter_mcc if you remember it would be good to hear of your experience. Are you also travelling the Gary Junction Road?

Has anyone towed into Rudall River NP? If so what condition was the track in?

Hi, we plan to travel the GJR in June and would like to know if it is suitable for the Tvan. We also plan to go into Rudall River NP but recall that in 2005 it was a very rough trip in to Desert Queen Baths, has anyone been there recently? Thank you in advance for your information.

Hi, I am considering a vac sealing machine and have seen the Campfire brand. Has anyone had any experience with this brand or can recommend another brand. Also do they seal as well as the cryovac machines that butchers use?

Thank you for that very useful information.  We are going up there and of April, realising that some of the tracks will be weather dependant. But will also get to enjoy some autumn colour in Bright.

Hi, planning a trip in the high country and one thought is Craig's Hut, Little Cobbler Track to Abbeyards Rd, Mt Selwyn then follow the Buckland Road into Porepunkah towing a Tvan. Any recommendations or advice on this?

We use a Smartspace rectangular fry pan with a detachable handle which fits nicely on the stove with a Campfire saucepan, also with a detachable handle. There are actually quite a few rectangular frypans on the market. Hope this helps. 😀
