Hanns Track includes a section of the Anne Beadell Highway, a 220km off road section from near Bishop Rileys Pulpit heading NE to join the Connie Sue Highway at Point Lilian, a trip up the Connie Sue to Warburton then returning to Laverton via the Great Central Road.
The challenging part is the 220km off road section, with the aid of the book titled 'Hanns Track' there is 98 co-ordinates given to cover this section. There is a track of sorts there in places, we managed to lose the track about six times with every one out walking looking for the track. The track also disappeared countless times but by continuing on in a straight line we were able to pick it up again. The 'track' varied from sandy to rocky with a fair proportion of it covered with Spinifex almost as high as the vehicles and T-vans.
I would not recommend any one to do it solo as if anything was to happen (a Spinifex fire would be a real possibility) the next person across there could be a years time, we did not see anyone else for five days.
Travelling across this section you are rewarded with some great views of the Ranges, some unique rockholes, several caves and some Aboriginal rock art. Several times we saw camels and the wild flowers and flowering Mallee were amazing. Due to the good season last year suitable camp sites were hard to find.
It was a unique experience and was very glad to share with such great travelling companions in Andrew and Michele, John and Lorna and I have to say a very good navigator in Maxine (she keeps telling me she didn't ask for the job).

Sounds like quite a trip Graham, but as you know I am now exceedingly nervous about bonnet-high spinifex!!!

Yes Adrian when we saw the coverage and height of the Spinifex you guys were very prominent in our thoughts.
