Is it just me?
I had an Ozpig & got sick of cutting little blocks of wood for relatively very little heat.
I found it dirty, bulky, heavy & more trouble than it was worth.

It does not have the ability to connect a spit to it. It comprises to 4 plate plates, 2 approx 500 x 200 and 2 approx 250 x 200 ( sides ). These slot together. We also have a Bush. B.Q. which consists of a spike that you hammer into the ground and 2 swivel plates that slide over the spike, also comes with a billy pole. Google Bush.B.Q for more detailsand photos. We also have a complete "Hillbilly" campoven and gas ring kit. The 3 kits together cover all situations.
I like the flat pack pit as it is only about 1cm thick when packed and easy to carry

Project for today (reviving an oldish thread....)

Camping at Casterton last weekend was a little cold and the boys really wanted a fire, so.... after a bit of internet research, came up with this idea....





Not quite finished yet, as I feel it will need a few small 'breather' holes drilled here and there and I need to drill some "Track" holes in the end plates to make it match the Tvan....

Oh for a plasma or laser cutting machine.....

We also have the large Snowpeak (with accessories) and are very happy with it, the quality is great and it works well. Easy to clean and pack up/set up (just fold/unfold it). The baseplate and stand option protects the ground. The whole kit with grill, baseplate etc we think is around 10kg though.

We also have the large Drifta fire pit with all the goodies and find it very good as has already been said it's a bit pricy but very well made, and packs up flat we sore ours in the front storage box.

I used 3mm steel plate.  I recon it weighs about 15kg so far, but I aim to reduce that a little by cutting of excess 'bits'.

I did look at the commercially available ones, but at over $200 for many of them, I thought $30 for a bit of sheet steel and an hour of my time was better use of resources....   ...... and I like to make stuff myself....

Still to pass the usefulness test, but I reckon it'l be a ripper.

Mods to come:

Track 'holes' to match Tvan..
'Breather holes' to allow air in better
Tray for underneath to catch wayward ash that falls through.

At about the same price as the ozpig and the large snow peak kit the frontier stove is a good option frontier stove.  These are finally available in Australia but have ended up pricey     (I like the water tank accessory)

These can go inside a tent (or a Tvan) but that would not be my choice
