Hello everyone,

I tried to submit this yesterday but it didn't seem to work, so will try one more time. We will shortly head for Cape York with our NT Pajero and Tvan in late August. Do those who have been there consider a snorkel essential at this time of year? We are considering the Bloomfield track, Lakefield NP, OTT south. The pajero has standard suspension, winch and bullbar.

thanks for any assistance,

A snorkel is cheap insurance against motor damage. It is one of the first things I fit to my 4WD's. You don't have to be crossing bonnet depth rivers to ingest water, and it doesn't take a lot.

From recollection the Pajero had its air inlet located just under the leading edge of the bonnet. If this is the case I'd be looking seriously at fitting a snorkel.

Creek crossings vary from year to year so someone who has been that way this season would be better placed to comment on depth of water to be negotiated but even if this isn't an issue a snorkel will help get clearer air to the engine by lifting the inlet above much of the dust kicked up by others on the road.

Thanks for the replies. I have ordered a Safari snorkel from ARB after a quick bit of research. Now to fit it before we go.

thanks again,

Hi Ray
Good decision. There are Youtube videos on fitting snorkels. I didn't have the guts to cut a 118mm hole in the guard and by the time I bought the hole saw it wasn't worth the stress or money.
Enjoy the Cape

Found that the snorkel was a good idea when we did our Cape Trip but as we went in June-July found that the water level was never quiet high enough in most places to cause too many major issues.  But would certainly be good insurance as they seem to have had plenty of rain up north this year.  Have an amazing trip is such beautiful country

Thanks for all your replies, the snorkel is now fitted and looking good and the rear low air vents sealed as well.

after all that I hope we see a little water at least ;)

Remember the snorkel can also help direct cleaner air into the engine when travelling on dusty tracks such as those up on the Cape. So even if you miss out on deep water crossings, the snorkel is still delivering benefits.

Agree totally, even if u never cross a creek or river a dusted engine costs the same to b repaired if it was drowned.
