outer wheel bearings turning on hub

I'm checking the tvan bearings and find the outer bearing inner race appears to be turning on the stub axle and is quite loose. The large flat washer also has wear marks on both sides that match bearing and nut contact surfaces. The new bearing also appears a bit loose when pushed onto the stub.

Is it possible to use a Loctite or similar product to stop the inner race from turning?

any advice appreciated,

The outer bearing inner race on my Tvan was also wearing the castenated nut washer. Not really wearing it but at least marking it as if the bearing was turning on the washer. I've heard of this with other bearings on campertrailers and I'm not sure if it is a problem. It didn't seem to be.

Have not done it on the TVan but I have used a centre punch to mark the stub axel where the bearing fits on, this gives a bit of grip for the bearing surface.

Hope this is of some help.

What Russ said.

If it is loose, mark the axle with a small punch. Just enough to hold the bearing firm.

Leaving it loose lets the axle do the job of the bearing.

Thanks everyone,

Our local mechanic said exactly the same thing, which I have done. I made small pinpricks with the centre punch and it seems to be holding firmly. Mechanic thought best not to use Loctite because it would be difficult to remove bearings next time.

Thanks again,

Pretty common to see wear on the washer from the race turning on the stub. Doesn't seem to cause adverse stub axle wear over time in my experience.

Thanks for the note Craig,

Both sides show wear on the washers and the shaft so I am more comfortable pinpricking the shaft and trying to stop the bearing turning. Wont know until the next repack of course.
