Side Pockets for Mk II Tvan

G'Day All,

Just getting the Tvan ready for 3 months away and knocking over a few small jobs before we go.

One of the things I do notice is losing things down beside the bed....   I would love to have the side pockets, as you can get in the Mk III onwards, but I'm not too sure if they were available for the earlier models.  They are certainly not listed on the Track website for the Mk II.  Also the price may mean camping in the back yard instead of the Kimberley....

I have the MSA4x4 canvas seat organisers for the kids in the car and I was wondering whether someone else had adapted something similar as a replacement of the side pockets on the Tvan.

Pics would be great too....

Otherwise I have a pair of new Track storage pockets that I bought but never installed on my Mk2. They are from a later model but can be fitted with a little fiddling around.  Make me an offer if you are interested

Markeaust, our 2009 Mkii Canning has side nets as standard.
Will take some photos if needed but an email to TT should get the
answer you require.

The cheap eBay option is looking reasonable at this stage...the appear to simply velcro to the fabric.  Obviously not for heavy stuff, but for phones and other light stuff, should be OK.

I think the original TT ones will simply be too expensive...

Our 2009 Mk2 , bought second hand, was fitted with side pockets from the factory so I'm assuming TT did have them available as an option on models other than a Murranji which is our model. They are a great thing to have!

Our 2005 Mk 2, which we bought second hand, has the side pockets and roof pockets also.  They did have them, whether they still have any in stock would be anyone's guess.

Our Mark 2 Tvan Canning had side pockets fitted as standard. It also had overhead storage racks about 250 mm wide that ran down both sides of the bed.
Really good for storage on a long trip.
Maybe worth a call to Track to see if you can still get them.

The Mk II Tvans did have the side pockets as an option.
The roof mounted storage is stretchy net with elasticated rope around the edge like the tent.
It's hung from eye hook type fittings and small fittings like draw handles(only a lot smaller, on the steel).

The pockets are held by stay puts on the upright aluminium forms that fit just beside the window, halfway along the side wall.
Normally used to hide the speaker wires and power wires for the outside kitchen light. 
And two more stay puts on the aluminium form that hides the wires for the reading lights, where they are mounted in the front corners.

My Tvan does have the roof netting along each side of the bed and we really use this a lot.  I do think the side nets would be great for all the little nick-nacks that just seem to fall down beside the bed.

I have ordered one of those cheapo eBay nets just to see whether this will work as a starting point.

Track may or may not have old stock. You could probably get someone to make some up based on the pics if they don't.

Even if you only need to fit the stayput fittings. 
Make sure you get metal stayputs. The plastic ones don't last.

Easy to fit as the stayputs just rivet to the wall stiffeners with 1/8 rivets on a MkI & MkII. It's just a matter of holding up the pocket into a place you are happy with (parallel to the floor), mark one top eyelet on the stiffener, line up and drill the holes, fit the stayput & pocket and use this to then mark the other top hole, fit it up and then do the bottom ones. Just take care drilling the front holes as the marker light & reading light wires are behind the wall stiffener. I might add that it is easier to do with the mattress out too, but not essential.

Plastic stayputs are OK for the wall pockets as they are out of the weather and don't carry a lot of load, but metal ones can't hurt.
