Jeff and others:  I believe:
•   It to be important to retain the fuse built into the fridge plug (or some other type of fuse) so in any reconfiguration you need to keep this in mind; and

Very old thread but needs to be clarified,
The thermal fuse in the body of the genuine Engel cigarette plug is to protect the fridge from a poor, dirty, intermittent connection of the spring loaded centre pin in the cigarette plug, not as the main protection for the fridge. There is a fuse in the body of the fridge to protect the smarts and should be another fuse in the supply to the fridge outlet circuit.
