Hi, has anyone been to Lake Eyre recently? What are the road conditions like?

Phil G

I was up that way 2 weeks ago on a Simpson Trip.  Oodnadatta track past Lake Eyre South was in good nick but as usual lots of coarse gravel, so I let pressures down and no faster than  80.
Didn't do Muloorina or Halligan's Bay but both are open.  You'll just see dry salt lake.
I doubt there will be any water reach the Lake apart from maybe a small splash at the Warburton Groove (seen from a plane).  The flooding through Birdsville was minor and the Diamantina is back down to normal level. The water in Cooper Creek still hasn't reached Coongie and is unlikely to progess from there.
Birdsville Track needs a grade - but still OK for 80 kph.  Roadworks at the Birdsville end.
Farina Restoration group are active and it looked like they had the oven going.

I dream of the smell of fresh bakery items from that Farina Oven...
Must go back!
