Topaz internal shower
« on: November 11, 2018, 04:47:21 PM »
A dealer told me he wasn't getting any more Topaz caravans as he was waiting on the new Topaz with internal shower to be released. Anyone have any more information on this or know if they will be at the open day next week.

Good question... My wife and I are planning to buy a Topaz in the new year and if a new model is on the cards I would very much be interested to see what the rig looks like with an internal shower. I would expect it will be at least a bit bigger in size to accomodate the extra room required. This then begs the question will its weight also increase beyond what my Prado will be able to tow?

From what I've heard they are not due out until around next Easter or even later.

Thanks for the update. Would be nice to see some floor plans of what we could expect but I guess we'll just have to wait!

I guess it's like anything, there's always a compromise. If they include an internal shower and don't increase the size, somethings go to go. Or, they increase the size and make it less attractive to tow down tracks. I think I'd prefer the former.

It will be interesting.

If they make it bigger, I would be very interested in the tare weight and the total trailer weight as I have been told that they cannot increase the total weight with the current suspension!  Let's see what comes!  I do know though that these days the GVM is being monitored by transport departments and all trailers and their makers will be accountable.

I agree with Harry’s comment re weight. It is a fine line with the Topaz now and some major changes would be required to reduce existing weight or up the axle load carrying capacity.
The other question for us is “ Do we want an internal Shower and Toilet?”
We carefully considered all options when we purchased the Topaz. Our preference was to have the internal kitchen and living space over the shower and toilet. If we wanted the internal shower and toilet we would have gone to another brand.
Having moved up from a TVan we still wanted to get into relatively remote Bush areas and National Parks. The Topaz allows this.
We enjoy the flexibility the current set up gives and don’t find setting up the en-suite a chore. In remote bush locations you don’t need it. Gives the feeling of still camping. ( although in luxury.)

Rob, Thanks for the feedback . We were also looking at other vans that had an ATM< 2500 kg and although some were cheaper and  included an interior shower / toilet they didn't have the robust build of the Topaz. We keep coming back to it! My wife and I actually like the concept of the pod attached to the rear of the van and as you say, the internal kitchen and living space are more than adequate given the space available.

Like Rob, we made this decision about an internal shower/toilet when buying the van and would have gone to another brand if we wanted it. You can't be all things to all people and the trade-off is the weight and space which then impacts upon where you can go, how easy to tow etc etc etc.

It will take some clever engineering to get internals without affecting (too much) the other features of the van we chose when buying - then again there are a lot of clever engineers and designers out there.
