Glycol Question
« on: January 20, 2019, 01:01:39 PM »
Hi All,
Have searched but can't seem to find any threads about this.
We have a  2017 MkIV Murranji with a factory heater the coolant (glycol) level is low and needs to be topped up. The Track owners book says just to top up with "premixed automotive glycol". The colour of the glycol in the trailer is green.
I've read in the past that certain glycols shouldn't be mixed. Any answers to that?
Also does anyone know the brand/type of glycol that Track use in the factory. I will ring them tomorrow to see if i can get an answer to that but thought that i would see if the collective had any answers today.
Plus any idea of how much glycol goes in to bring the level from the bottom of the sight glass to towards the top of the sight glass?
Thanks in advance for input.
Cheers,
Allan

Hi

coolant mixes are either red or green.  You can buy as either concentrate or pre-mix.  Concentrate is more expensive per litre before its diluted.

I would just use the same colour coolant pre-mix.

It would be handy if your tow vehicle used the same colour mix.

good luck, regards pete

Just as a heads up, I spoke to David at Track. He got a bottle of the glycol and advised:
Tectaloy 60 plus
General purpose
Pre mixed

Tank now topped up..
We're day 1 of 4 months to Tassie and back.

Thanks for doing the research Allan, it's good to have an official response.

I am guessing it has taken you two years to get to the point of a refill being required? We have only had our Scout for 6 months and haven't used the heater much at this stage so I am guessing I won't need to worry about this for a while.

Yeah William 2 years of use. About 30,000klm we guesstimate.
We don't use our heater all that much living in Qld. I think we're still on our first tank of diesel 😀
Only had to add about 400ml or thereabouts of the glycol.
