Had my Mk5 Scout since August last year and finally found this forum. Great read so far with heaps of great advice/tips/knowledge. Look forward to learning a heap more!!

Been on a few trips and a couple of  things I have learned the hard way are:

1. 100Ah is okay but 200Ah is better. Lucky I got the extra wiring, second battery going in shortly.
2. $330 is a lot of money to learn to ALWAYS use pegged down poles with the quick awning. A gentle breeze can get big with very little notice! At least replacing the poles isn't a hard job, even for numpties like me.

Off to Bendleby and Arkaroola soon. Hope to see some TVans in my travels.

Welcome to the club.

I've had an awning on my ute for years and never really worried about guide ropes; but recently I set-up for a stop and out of nowhere the wind whipped up and broke the awning.  Consequently I have been using the poles and guide ropes on the Tvan ever since. I find that having to spend money to fix something is a stronger motivation to change behaviour than words in an instruction manual  ;)
