Hi all,

Changing to lithium..

I have a standard 15amp 240volt charger on the MKIV (With 1x agm) and with the change from one agm to two lithium I am looking at changing the 15amp 240 to a 25amp lithium profile charger. Whilst I can insert (plug and play - I believe😒) a 15amp lithium profile 240 charger
1. Is it as easy as cutting out the face plate on the power box/ICC where the laser cut section is around the 15amp charger to fit the bigger charger and then plug and play?; if so
2. Do I need to change/upgrade and wiring for the 25amp charger to be installed?

BTW I have the MKIV schematics for the power box.. are there any other wiring plans for the MKIV that are available on the forum  that can help me on my lithium journey to help me and my sparkie?

Cheers

Hi Allen

I am in the process of upgrading to Lithium too. The 25A will be worthwhile. Assuming you have 2 x 100 AH, and the fridge is running at the time, 15A only leaves 10Amps for charging up to 160AH worth of battery. That 16 Hours. Going to 25A reduces that time to 8 hours - overnight. I got a 30A Victron for about $250 which I thought was a good price. It has Bluetooth and uses the same app as the BMV 712.

if the wiring is 6mm auto cable it should be ok if it is fairly short, otherwise, 8 B&S is better. The bigger the better for sure.

I'd love a copy of the wiring diagram. Mine is a MK3 but I guess it's similar. Where did you get that?

Tony  8b&s is smaller than 6 b&s...the smaller the b&s gauge the bigger the cross sectional area

Please don't say, "If its not done in 6B&S it's not done properly."!!!!   :D :D :D

Thank Neil, I do understand that, and 4 B&S is bigger again. But for 700mm or so of cable running 25amps peak, 6MM auto is probably tons, 8B&S going a bit over the top, and 6B&S way over the top. It's unlikely that the Projector and other ends will even take 6B&S cables.

The voltage drop at 25A will be about 0.08A with 6B&S and 0.05V with 8 B&S. ( About 0.11v for  6mm auto cable) With the added complexity I didn't think it worth recommending for a difference of 0.03v. Once on charging stages 2 and 3 the voltage drop would be too small to measure.

For charging a battery in the trailer from the vehicle it's a different story, In fact I use 2 B&S for that. up to 20m or cable will give a meaningful voltage drop even on thick cables.

Horses for courses so to speak.

IMHO of course.

Could you please send me any electrical diagrams for the Mk4 as I amd doing the lithium change out as well.  I have the Redarc 25a DCDC charger and I am looking for recommendations on a 240 charger and where you guys have fitted them.  Any info will be greatly appreciated.  Gary

Hoping to get a copy of the MKIV wiring diagrams :)
Can anyone help?

I'm fitting the Projecta IC2500L and the BCDC1240D  (in place of the Projecta IC2500 & BCDC1240-LV originals with 2 x AGM) as part of moving to Lithium.  I haven't selected the replacement batteries yet.  Trying to stay with the same 'form factor' for these, but wiring will need to be adapted.  I can circuit trace but if it's already done then I'll just confirm mine's been done as per diagram etc.

Looks like I'll need to upgrade the feeds between these chargers and the batteries.  (I notice a bit of a difference between the existing IC2500 voltage display while charging and the BMV702 voltage display, which disappears as the current drops down.)  The new IC2500L has separate voltage sensing wires which is good, but the BCDC1240D has a different approach by pausing the current regularly to check voltage progress.
