Radio Upgrade

We are considering updating the AM/FM radio installed in our 2007 Mk2 Murranji to something that will support Bluetooth remote speaker etc.  Does anyone have a recommendation of make and model that will slot into the existing position?

Seems like a lot of work finding the right unit. Why not just use your phone or tablet and bluetooth that to a speaker ? We have a Wonderboom from JB HiFi which belts out plenty of volume.

A class D amplifier one is best. A good example is the Sony dsx-gs80.

Most car stereo's are class AB and 50w RMS

The advantages in a camper of Class D compared to a normal class AB are:
- They are about 90 -95% power efficient compared to 60- 70% - So you use around 30% less battery power for the same volume.
- Normal stereos need 13.8V and are designed to operate when the alternator is charging. Many will have noticed that their stereos in the camper have a lot of distortion, especially as the battery charge lowers. Class D stereos can go down to about 10V with little more distortion. Normal ones hate anything below about 12.8V
-Normal stereos are limited to 50W RMS per channel, a class D can go higher if you select the right one.
- They run cooler.

I swapped a few years ago. It is a world of difference, especially as you have to turn the volume up a little if you are listening to music outside the van.

Boobook, just to clarify are you using the fusion unit or something else? What is the radio reception like in the fusion unit including AM and FM?
