not much room taken up inside.  just means the mattress sits over to the opposite wall a little.
will trim it all up when the walls get trimmed.
even have the bonus of an extra shelf inside.  perfect for mobile phones , ipod , tissues etc.

gotta be worth a pint at the end of that job

Nice work.

Interestingly Track experimented many years ago with a similar pantry idea, just above the existing kitchen locker, but it never went ahead.

Having been out for over two years now and knowing things change, have you modified the suspension arm, or is the big box on the back of the arm how it came? If I had to guess I would say it was for a bump stop.

I've personally repaired worse looking Tvans at Track that what I can see in the pics, so I'm surprised the insurance company wrote it off. Insurance companies work in mysterious ways sometimes.

Thats the way the arm came Craig.

The Tvan was shipped from the NT to Bayswater for track to quote repairing it. financially not viable to repair.
I can see why they wrote it off.  Im able to repair a lot of stuff and do some mods at the same time.  but if track was quoting for everything new and to bring the tvan up to pre accident condition it would add up very quick.

Great work Darren.  You are displaying a wide range of skills that I will never quite get 'in a straight line'.  A man need a project (and a shed).  Looking forward to the finished job.  I am confident your attention to detail and planning will ensure it turns out VERY well!  Good luck (merry xmas!)

I am after some ideas on insulating the Tvan .  has anybody put the effort into insulating walls and roof etc ?
and if so is it worthwhile ?

I've insulated the front panel on our van. I cut two pieces of styrene sheet to shape and glued the wall fabric to it. I attached mine with Velcro so it could be removed if I wanted to. I don't know if it has made any difference but it looks nicer having the same fabric all the way around.

The white reflects most of the heat so I don't know if further insulation would make much difference on the walls or roof. Having roof lining material glued to the inside of the hatch helps with condensation (and possibly keeps some heat in) on cold nights. Painting the front panel like you intend should also help, you just have to touch both when they are in the sun to feel the difference being glossy white has on temperature (even the gloss finish seems to help as MkII walls are often cooler to the touch than MkIII walls in the sun). A tropical roof over the tent has a good effect on inside temperature as well in both hot and cold conditions.

back into the Tvan build today after a relaxing few weeks off, including taking the old Tvan on its last trip with us before it moves onto its new owner next month.

I hitched the new van onto patrol and took it for a tow.  want to make sure it all tracked good and sat level etc.  everything went perfect except the LH axle must be bent also.  wheel leans over more than the RH side does..    I will order a new one next week.  at least i will be confident that its all new and ready for the punishment i will put it through.

rear deck halves , and all parts for powdercoating are also loaded into my patrol and ready to goto the powdercoaters in the morning.

I have decided to make the alloy sides for tvan myself.  I will cut them using a router and then sikaflex them on..   I will then paint the both sides , inside the pantry and the front wall in gloss white 2pak.

My wife has decided she wants to vinyl wrap the new pantry hatch door with a sunset photo she took a few years ago in the kimberley, just to add a bit more personality to our new tourer.

no pics today as not really much to take pics of .  will do more shortly

few pics of what I've been up to...
picked up parts from Powdercoaters.   very happy with the finished product.
I also spoke to him about powder coating the walls before i glue them on and he seemed to think it was easy enough.  as I'm so happy with the finish he done on all the other parts i will be sending the new walls into him next week for coating.

Craig i have bought some camping bedrolls that I'm lining the front wall with, this should give a padding as well as insulation. also the cook has been into spotlight and chosen a material to re-trim the sides and front wall in.  will look much better all trimmed in the same material.

I cant even spell monaro it seems but that white thing sorta looks to have the roofline of a HT.

No holdons or nissins for me, just Toyotas, Tvan and Fords (and VW and Masseys and Caterpiller and Inter's and Yamahas and Honda :-[)
