Check out our On The Emu Track blog at https://www.tracktrailer.com.au/googs-track/. We travelled Googs Track in 2016. The camp at Googs Lake is good. We virtually had the track to ourselves.  The biggest dunes are just north of Googs Lake. Keep your tyre pressures down. We found it best to use the main track every time, not the side tracks.

We have been travelling Australia for just on 2 years in our Tvan 'On The Emu Track'. The Tvan has been great.  The biggest issue was how much gear do you take and where do you put it so you can access it easily when you need it. You can so easily take items you think would be nice to have but end up using them only once or twice, or sometimes never. When we set off we decided if the travelling or the weather conditions got too much for us we would take some time out, rent a unit, and chill out for a while.  We never did it.

Our travels are continuing.  We've decided to have a few weeks at home over Christmas with our family and then heading off to Tasmania for 11 weeks.

Some people asked how we have travelled for so long in the Tvan and are we still enjoying it.  Firstly we are still enjoying travelling in the Tvan.  The key features we like the Tvan are the comfort of the pillow top matress, the convenience of the pull out kitchen (you can pull over anywhere and boil the billy), you can tow it anywhere and we have - in the Vic High Country, across stoney and sandy deserts, over hundreds of sand dunes, down beaches, and on tracks of pure rock.  We used the shade sail a lot, but we put the annex roof up if we were staying more than 3 days or if rain was likely.  It's done it all with the only failures of note being 2 shock absorbers and a water pump diaphram. If you are really going off road we recommend carrying a spare pair of shock absorbers, 2 water pump diaphrams, 2 spare bearing sets, split pins and caps. We recommend changing the bearings completely every 15,000km as the fine bulldust and water can really do damage that's not always apparent.

Secondly, we headed off with the mindset that while the Tvan is fairly small, we have the biggest lounge room in the world. Generally we found that staying 5 days was adequate to really enjoy a place. If you get tired and you love a spot eg. Broome after thousands of kilometres of red dirt, spend a week to 10 days. Have an open mind and if something goes wrong we found that you just have to wait for parts (once it was for 10 days for a small gasket).

We've travelled 74,000 kms and tyres wear out.  Vehicle servicing can be very expensive in northern WA and NT. But we've done everything including luxury items such as staying overnight at the Horizontal Waterfalls; helicopter flights over the Bungle Bungles and helifishing for barramundi; lots of fishing charters (and caught lots of fish); snorkelling all down the east coast; sailing; the dinner cruise on Katherine Gorge and the occasional nice dinner.

We did set off thinking we'd stop at all the places we've always driven past and never seen.  We did this for the first month and then just had to start skipping places or we'd never have got past Victoria.

Our favourites: The Victorian High Country; Cape Leveque (Kooljamon); The Pilbara; The Kalbarri wildflowers; Broome; The Kimberley; the wild Margaret River coast; Denmark WA; Lucky Bay WA; The Flinders Ranges; Kangaroo Island; Illaroo camp ground Yuraygir NP NSW; Point Plomer NSW; Snorkelling the Whitsunday Islands, to name just a few.

Good tings to have: A hot shower unit; Tech towels like backpackers use because they dry easily; cryovac meat as it doesn't leak; strong comfortable waking boots; lots of insect repellent and itchy cream; a good camera; back packs and water bottles; wide brimmed hats; litres of sunscreen; wharehouse handler gloves for packing and unpacking; a good camp oven and rigger gloves for handling hot pans; and ipod with lots of music as there's no radio out there.

Underbelly

Hi Topher and all other Track owners who have enjoyed our blog.

The Emu Track Blog is still being submitted to Track Trailer and were still on the road having just started our second year. We've supplied Track with 35 blog posts but only 18 have been published to date.

Several problems arose with someone attempting to hack the Track server resulting in Track stopping the posts until they installed a new server. Lloyd from Track advised that all the remaining blogs should be published commencing very soon with all the blogs submitted to date being online by mid June.

We contact Lloyd regularly trying to get them published.

As for this year we will soon be preparing more blog posts, starting on the NSW north coast, the Hunter Valley and our trek back to SA where we will be exploring the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas before heaing up to traverse the NT top end from Daly River to Arnhem Land and around the Gulf country, with a minor detour to the Big Red Bash.

If you see our Paj and Tvan on the road you will see our emus on the Tvan and windscreen banner 'On The Emu Track'. Be sure to say hello or give us a wave.

Used Tom Groggin last week and it was very easy. Water is quite low at present. It is a firm rocky bottom crossing that curves significantly so if the water deepens check it first.  As for the  tracks in the Vic High Country, we traveled from Benambra to Tom Groggin via the Davies High Plain - signs say trailers Not Recommended. We had no problems but it was slow and required careful wheel placement on the steep sections.

I use an extended hitch from TJM behind my Paj with no problems. Reduces the max towable trailer weight to 2.5T but no problems with a Tvan and lets me open the rear door with the Mk3.
